Message from the Sheriff

There is a rapid increase, as well as a more violent content, in crimes being committed in Gasconade County during the last several years. We can investigate a scene, take reports, arrest subjects on warrants, and do what the law requires of a law enforcment officer, but there has to be more. An active role on the part of citizens is an important part in combating crime within a community. Too often, a Deputy responds to a call, conducts a neighborhood canvass, and is told by a potential witness, "Yes I saw something, but I don't want to get involved." This attitude is somewhat common, and is at times warranted; however you, the citizen, must stand with me to rid our community of crime. Together, in a combined effort, we can turn the tide on crime in our community, and make Gasconade County a safer, more enjoyable place to raise our children. As a husband and father, I believe that education is definitely a way to help our citizens in the fight against crime. Both young and old can be educated in things to look for in our community. One may gather information or be a witness to a crime while shopping, sightseeing, or even driving to church. Our future relies heavily on the knowledge and upbringing provided by our parents and us as parents. Let us take what we have learned about being good people and responsible citizens and teach our children.
